About Us

Meet the Team

We’re a team of researchers and engineers who love solving hard problems. We’ve worked in research and industry settings on a variety of challenges.

We’re passionate about sharing and learning. That’s why we created the largest research paper reading group in the Bay Area, the Deep Learning Study Group which has over two thousand members.

We also speak at meetups and conferences. Email us ([email protected]) to check availability.

Danielle Swank

Danielle Swank

Partner and CEO

Danielle founded Fomoro AI on the premise that most machine learning is out-of-date even before it launches.

Before Fomoro, she created the machine learning team at Planet, built a critically-acclaimed indie game studio, and started a co-working space in SF. She’s also designed and built both mission control systems and real-time ad delivery systems responsible for sales of over 30M per day. In her spare time she used to be a volunteer firefighter.

Running into crisis situations is what she does for fun. Building cool stuff is what she does for a living.

Jim Fleming

Jim Fleming

Partner and CTO

Jim started Fomoro AI to bridge the gap between state-of-the-art research and the applied challenges companies face with new technologies.

Jim has worked with neural networks and evolutionary algorithms since 2009 including computational neuroscience and spiking neural networks. He created the largest and longest running Bay Area Meetup for deep learning research and has spoken at conferences such as the Google Art and Machine Learning Symposium.

He’s also a TensorFlow contributor.

Sam Wenke

Sam Wenke

Machine Learning Researcher

Sam leads the R&D team at Fomoro AI.

Previously, he worked on NSF grant funded research in novel devices, such as 2- and 3-terminal ReRAM, and created architectures to accelerate spiking and deep-learning algorithms.

Sam also gives lectures on embedded systems, digital design, and software engineering.

Andrew Wang

Andrew Wang

Machine Learning Engineer

For Argonne National Laboratory, Andrew analyzed diesel fuel emissions and engine modeling in search of alternative fuels. He also created a document topic matching pipeline to pair up news articles with the abstracts of related scientific papers using NLP.

His work combines information sharing via neurons (neuroscience), languages (linguistics), and computers (artificial intelligence). Focused on RL, CV, and NLP at Fomoro AI.

Mike Qiu

Mike Qiu

Machine Learning Engineer

During his time at the University of Toronto, Mike developed an antibody-modified nanoparticle for biomedical imaging and phototherapy in clinically relevant animal models. He also analyzed the protective functions of K(ATP) channels during simulated cardiac events in mice.

Mike’s work intersects biology, pharmaceutical science, and machine learning.

Eddie Costantini

Eddie Costantini

Machine Learning Engineer

While getting his Masters in Financial Math at John Hopkins, Ed founded the Algorithmic Trading Team and went on to win the Trading Technologies’ Best Algorithm Award in 2017. He also created novel crude oil futures trading strategies.

Ed works on our in-house and client mathematics research.
